The Bilby Fence
- A Good News Story

The bilby is a beautiful little Australian marsupial with a large well furred tail and long rabbit-like ears. It is a nocturnal animal and lives in deep spiral burrows by day. Introduced species like rabbits, cats and foxes have driven this beautiful little animal to the brink of extinction. Fortunately some good humans have now begun to take care of the bilby. On Easter Sunday a Bilby Fence will be officially opened in Queensland. The fence surrounds twenty-five square kilometres of the Currawinya National Park near Cunnamulla and Eulo in south-west Queensland. The area has been cleared of introduced species, and bilbies who have been reared in captivity will be/have been released into this safe space. It is hoped that they will thrive and recolonise this area. The Bilby Fence has been built with money collected from citizens like you and me. If you want to support the bilby you can make a donation to:

Also, the Australian Bilby Appreciation Society is asking Aussies to buy an Easter Bilby instead of the traditional Easter Bunny - ask your chocolate retailer, "Where are the Easter Bilbies?"
