Marginal Electorates Campaign

Election talk is indicating
that a Federal Election will be called around October 12 with
the actual election held on either 17 or 24 November. That
leaves only a short time now to really pressure the candidates
and political parties to adequately address the critical policy
issues that sit around inequality in Australia.
HOW YOU CAN BE
INVOLVED:
SIGNS - as
has been previously advertised the SAO is producing signs that
can be displayed in people's yards, work places or wherever.
Several people have indicated to SAO that they want signs but
there are still plenty more to be used. These signs can go
up once the election is announced. Please get in touch with
us as soon as possible if you want a sign.
LETTERS TO SENATORS -
You can write to the Queensland Senators expressing the same
concerns and message on the campaign postcard.
VISITING CANDIDATES -
Several people in Lilley and Petrie have volunteered to visit
their candidates. In order to prepare for these meetings a
preparation session is being held at St Dympna's, Aspley on
Monday 29 October at 7.30pm. If anyone from another electorate
wants to join that group please feel free to do so.
ATTENTION MORETON
CONSTITUENTS - Urgent help is needed to get more postcards
distributed. Only one parish in the electorate has been active
in this campaign despite contacts being made and invitations
issued. If anyone can help in any way please contact Annette
Arnold rsj.
ELECTORATE LETTERBOX
DROP - Households in the most marginal booth areas in
Moreton, Petrie and Hinkler will receive a letter. This letter
carries the overall message of the campaign and asks people
to really think and consider the issues and to quiz candidates
about them before voting. The SAO will engage the services
of Australia Post to deliver these letters.
Postscript: Since
the publication of the October newsletter, the SAO's letterbox
drop was made across the electorates of Lilley, Petrie, Moreton
and Herbert and the distribution was not focussed on marginal
booth areas but on the electorates as a whole.
